正常な上皮細胞は「細胞極性」と呼ばれる方向性を持ってます。中でも代表的なものに頂端-基底極性と呼ばれる方向性があります。この頂端-基底極性を制御するのが「細胞極性タンパク質」です。大部分のがんは上皮細胞を由来としていることが知られていますが、それら様々ながん細胞では細胞極性である頂端-基底の方向性や細胞極性タンパク質に異常が認められます。私たちの研究グループではがん細胞に認められる細胞極性タンパク質の異常に着目した解析を中心に行っています。

Normal epithelial cells have a directionality called "cell polarity." The apical-basal polarity is the most representative of these directions. This apical-basal polarity is regulated by "cell polarity proteins". Most cancers are known to originate from epithelial cells, and abnormalities in apical-basal cell polarity and cell polarity proteins are observed in these various types of cancer cells. Our research group is focusing on the analysis of abnormalities in cell polarity proteins observed in cancer cells to understand the pathophysiological roles of the abnormalities of polarity proteins.
